Publishing a non-fiction book is important for service oriented business owners, especially those that operate in industries where they need to stand out from their competitors.
Having a book on your field or expertise makes you an authority on the subject in the mind of most people, according to research (“Authority” also starts with “Author”).

There are other advantages to writing a book.
Those advantages are achieved in two stages. First, as you write the book, you’re forced to formulate your knowledge and reach deeper than you normally do to add value for your reader. Second, you simplify the data and think of better ways to communicate it as you’re writing. This is something I discovered through personal experience when I was an instructor in the army. When you start teaching a subject or educating others about it, you become even better at it.
I found that, on occasion, someone can be extremely good at what they do, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they can explain it well. When writing a book, they’re forced to figure out the best wording to simplify the explanation.
As a result, they become not only better thinkers but better teachers and, in many cases, they perform better in their work. I have some clients (dentists) that were transformed from being good technicians to trainers of their skills and that transformed them to becoming extraordinary practitioners.
